From an idea to one of the leading manufacturers of pushchairs for the sporty lifestyle in just over 20 years.
The tfk success story
When I became a father, that’s when the story of tfk began.
(Oliver Beger, founder of tfk)In 1996, I became a father for the first time. Like many new parents, we wanted to spend as much time as possible with our son without having to give up the things we’d always loved: sport, exercise and being outdoors. As a keen speed skater, I was on the lookout for a pushchair that would suit our active lifestyle. But I couldn’t find one that met my standards for safety, quality and sportiness. So I decided to develop one myself. Together with a good friend, I founded the company tfk – Trends for Kids in Landshut, Bavaria, in 1997. Our idea was simple: we wanted to develop a pushchair that would give families the freedom to stay active and involve their children in their daily lives right from the start.
The courage to break new ground
The result was a pram with three wheels. Today, this is taken for granted. Back then, it was a minor revolution. At that time, there were practically no three-wheeled prams in Germany. Many people were sceptical. But we were convinced that manoeuvrability, safety and comfort were the way forward. With our three-wheeled pushchair, we helped to drive this development forward – and I’m still proud of that today.
From the first prototype to the next generation
Our ideas never originated solely at a desk, but in the reality of everyday family life. My children, Tobias and Verena, were already lying and sitting in the very first prototypes, accompanied us on countless test drives and became our most important test subjects. Many of the features that set our pushchairs apart today stemmed precisely from these experiences. What began as a pushchair for my son has now become a brand trusted by families across Europe.
I am particularly pleased that tfk has remained a family business to this day. Tobias and Verena now work in the company too. They bring their own experiences, new ideas and fresh perspectives to the table. For me, this brings things full circle: the two who once tested our first prototypes are now actively shaping the future of tfk.
tfk today
For almost 30 years, we have been developing pushchairs and outdoor products for families who want to be active together – whether in the city, on forest trails, whilst jogging or when travelling. Our aim has remained the same since 1997: to develop products that make parents’ everyday lives easier whilst offering maximum freedom. Our ideas do not originate on the drawing board. They evolve from real-life experiences, discussions with parents, midwives and specialist retailers, as well as our own commitment to creating pushchairs that truly meet the needs of modern families. Even though tfk is now represented across Europe, we have remained true to our roots. As a family-run business from Germany, we stand for personal responsibility, short decision-making processes and the belief that good products are created where passion meets experience. Every new development still begins with the same question: What do parents really need? It was precisely this question that marked the beginning of tfk’s story in 1997. And it is precisely this question that continues to guide us to this day.
